We booked the Death and Depravity tour on Saturday night. I personally thought it was an expensive walking tour but we wanted to hear some of the stories of Charleston that you don't hear on your normal day time tours. This was our first ghost tour, so we do not have anything to compare it to. We met at the fountain and 20 people went per tour around the city. Our tour guide was nice and had good stories, but of course there were some that I wondered if they were true or not. Also, I think it would be more scary and interesting to go into some of these places and not just stand outside of them and talk about it. Overall, it was a hot, muggy night with walking around the city hearing stories that may or may not be true. We had done a carriage ride tour earlier in the day, and a lot of things were repeated in the ghost tour. I did not find it very scary and by the end of the tour I was ready to go. I would most likely not go on this tour again.

I have gone in 3 ghost Tours in Charleston and this one was definitely the best one I’ve taken! The guide, Don, was super informative and had great stories and photos. Would definitely recommend this tour!

After reading the great reviews online, I was excited for this tour. Having done ghost tours in New Orleans, DC, Philadelphia, and Boston, I was excited to add another city to my list, especially one with such deep history. As with any ghost tour in any city, wear comfortable shoes as they typically last for about 2 hours and take you around the cities. The tour guide is from Charleston and is a registered tour guide so I was surprised to find him having a difficult time telling the stories. He would pause and stumble over his words quite often. I only heard about 4 ghost stories total, most of what was talked about was general Charleston history and was told in a very boring manner. I understand that general history is provided for background information but it took so long to get to the meat of the story that the attention of the crowd was lost which was only amplified by the stumbling mentioned above. The website described the death and depravity tour as "spooky" and "disturbing." It promised we would hear about mature and seedy history. At the end, I hadn't heard anything remotely close to what was described. Quite a few people left prior to the end of the tour. At the end of the tour, a fellow customer asked why he saw some other tours go into the graveyards and why we didn't do that. The tour guide's response was that they weren't allowed which I found quite odd. I hope that the company can use this as constructive and revamp the tour and gain access to the places that other companies can enter. I also urge them to take notes from other cities about what they do and how they tell their stories. There is a lot of room for improvement before I would recommend this tour to anyone.
