This walking tour is a must do and seriously consider requesting Kay - nothing against the other guides, but she is amazing. She weaves her narrative in and out of alleys with history, botany and wit. Kay loves her job and gets excited with all there is to know about Charleston. At one point, Kay practically jumped out of her shoes, "Look, there's a celebrity!" My wife and I thought we we'd see Darius Rucker or Bill Murray, but it was the former mayor, Joe Reilly. By the end of the tour we understood why Reilly is a celebrity. Afterwards, as we walked on our own, we reflected on children's fingerprints in bricks, Robert Smalls and we couldn't help noticing all the earthquake bolts, kitchen houses and camilla flowers. We see Charleston in a whole new light.
