Walking tours are very dependent on the knowledge and personality of the tour leader. We were very lucky to have Kay as our docent for our excursion as she was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and funny. Our group was small enough to be manageable and personable with a total of 10 which was just about right.
Kay kept a very balanced approach to her presentation of history with discussion of significant historical events mixed with the often unfortunate social, racial and economic repercussions of these historical events. Although she kept the presentation general, she was able to cover specific material in 'deep dives' when asked. History included discussion of events from 1640 to the present but also included architecture, every day life and religion.
The walk covered significant territory with mixed walking conditions including brick walks, cobble stone streets and broken cement sidewalks so comfortable walking shoes are a must, and a walking stick, maybe, for anyone with balance issues.
We had a perfect day for our walk with moderate temperatures, a breeze and sunshine. We were able to find shade most times we paused for a talk. Not all days are perfect so be sure to wear a hat for sun and light, loose, clothing for the heat.
Overall a wonderful experience and well worth the investment of time and money.
