This tour was a wonderful introduction to the history, architecture and charm of Charleston. Our guide, Steve, is a native of Charleston, and he had an impressive command of Charleston history: he covered everything from the founding of Charleston, to the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the preservation efforts beginning in the late 1800s, and some of the contemporary changes in the Holy City. But the most fun was walking through the alleyways that connect the buildings, and seeing how residents decorate their entrance doors and windowsills. Lots of civic pride in Charleston! The tour ended at the cemetery where Calhoun is buried (now there's a story), and Steve followed up with some recommendations for those of us who wanted to see other sights or find special places to eat. All in all, this was one of the highlights of our visit to Charleston! Thanks, Steve! And thanks, too, to Christina, at Lowcountry Walking Tours - one of our party fell a little over 24 hours before the tour and wasn't able to join us; Christina worked with us to get a refund from the online booking agency. Thanks, Christina! We appreciate your efforts!
