Hundreds of manatees make Crystal River their home during the colder months on our Manatee Tour (November 14 - March 31), and some stick around all year to enjoy the refreshing water from Hunter Springs. Our 2 different tour options each give a unique perspective on this incredibly popular location. Come paddle with us!

WoW! Are you looking for an incredible experience? Do you enjoy the outdoors & wildlife? How do you feel about something unique? We participated in a glass bottom boat “tour” with Get Up & Go Kayaking - Crystal River. I’d say it was more of a “guided” experience than a tour but that did not detract from it at all! We saw SO MANY manatee! Not 3 or 4 but AT LEAST 2 dozen. As we paddled you could catch a glimpse of the circular patterns their tails would leave in the water as they glided along. The water is so clear and shallow it’s easy to catch sight of them. We learned they are curious animals and have difficulty seeing. What does that mean? If you’re respectful, of course, they swim to your kayak. Not just 5 feet from you, but literally so close to the kayak you COULD touch them (if it were legal; please don’t touch though!). The icing on the cake? We passed more mama’s and their babies than we could count. More detailed information: Date: Early January Temperature: 70s+ Distance: 3-4ish miles Overall, the actual act of paddling wasn’t very difficult at all. It was a family affair with individuals in their 30s and 60s and we managed just fine. The getting in and out of the kayak was a little difficult for some, but the guide was very helpful and patient. If you have difficulty getting up and down from the ground, you may want to discuss what options are available to assist in entering the kayak. Life vests are available. 📸 HIGHLY RECOMMEND A WATERPROOF CAMERA! It’s a bit difficult to take photos aiming through the clear bottom kayaks and, if your experience is anything like ours, there will be so many opportunities to capture the manatee underwater… I mean, the majority of their bodies remain underwater with the few exceptions of them popping up their whiskered noses to breathe. Keep your 👀 peeled for that. There’s plenty more in the area! More to come.
