Point Joe is the 5th point on 17-Mile Drive. Its coastline is made of Granite rocks formed 65 million years back and it gives this coastline a rugged look. The place had several shipwrecks in history due to its rocky shares and its location near to Monterey Bay. The place has ample parking and sitting benches to relax. There are several information boards to read about the place. About the origin of the name Point Joe, there is debate over that for years now. Some historians believe that there was a Chinese man who lived in a driftwood structure here in the early 1900's that sold goods to explorers. It is unclear whether Point Joe was named for the Chinese man or if the man was named after the location. A great place to look out for everyones favorite marine mammal the Souther Sea Otter.

Point Joe

When we arrived they showed us how to use the bikes and made sure we were comfortable before we left. Our guide Leslie was friendly and knowledgeable about the bikes and the area. We rode along the coast and had several stops to enjoy the view, learn about the area and take photos. The total trip was about 13 miles, 6.5 each way. We biked from downtown Carmel to Seal Rock on the 17 Mile Drive so you do not ride the whole 17 mile drive on this trip.

Leslie was our tour guide and there was about 12 of us in total. We had the best weather you could ask for. Leslie was knowledgeable about the scenery and the bikes. We are both still talking about the breath taking views and overall experience. If you find time in your schedule or are looking for a fun tour, this is a great option.

Our guide Noah, was awesome. He was very knowledgeable of the area, including wildlife, history, and current events. Noah was great at ensuring that the group remained together and that we were all safe. This can be a tough task as our group was larger and riders had various different abilities. Would definitely recommend this trip to all.
