An afternoon strolling around colonial Williamsburg learning about different trades and the people that lived, worked and visited almost 300 years ago. We learned that some of the buildings on site are rented out to the reenactors. Some great story telling and history provided by the people working there.

Many things closed, including some that said they were open online, but all of the experiences, shops and tours that were open were run wonderfully. The staff is extremely kind and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend for a history buff.

Full disclosure - I was one of those kids who visited CW every summer growing up and loved it. I remember spending days at the site exploring. We were there one day on this trip and found very little was happening/going on. I will qualify, we were there on a February day, so it is technically their "winter" period. I also believe that the pandemic has made tourism and staffing a struggle. We took our son because I think everyone should visit at least once. The site itself can be accessed without admission fee, but entering most of the buildings requires a ticket. I do think that the winter price (30% off "in-season") is a bit high, given the limited offerings. We (3) paid almost $100. There was no fife/drum display (which I did know was the case from the website,) and no musket firing, which my son was bummed about. We did the Capitol tour and Governors Mansion tour, which were fantastic. We entered a few of the trades sites, and I freely admit we didn't schedule enough time. Many of the buildings were closed, and the food offerings in the historic site itself are extremely limited. It is a lot of walking, although there is a shuttle from the Visitors Center to the site, which is helpful. The shuttle staff, and all the staff, were very friendly and helpful. It very well kept, clean, pretty to stroll thru. We ventured to Merchants Square to eat. That is basically a shop/food/store area, catering to tourists and William & Mary people. It was an unseasonably warm day so that area was very crowded. All in all, a nice time. Hopefully, as more things open up and tourism regains it's momentum, CW will get back to it's normal operations. I suggest visiting in Summer, to get the full experience.
