Aperçu
Located just 25 minutes from New Orleans and 10 minutes away from the New Orleans International Airport, Destrehan Plantation is the oldest documented plantation home in the Lower Mississippi Valley. It is also the only plantation accessible by rideshare or taxi. Our tours are rich in political, social and economic history. After the tour, guests can view a folk-life demonstration, visit our 1811 Slave Revolt Exhibit, explore the grounds, picnic under a live oak tree draped in Spanish Moss and shop in our Plantation Store for unique hand-made items by local craft artisans. We are handicap accessible and kid friendly!

Despite being a difficult era in history, this place does a good job of preserving what they could. Jim was our tour guide and he was amazing. You can tell he is passionate and extremely knowledgeable about history. Ask for him and you won't be disappointed!

Very informative individual tour with Clint who is very knowledgeable. He explained things very well, answered questions and had knowledge about additional historical facts. Before the tour, Jacques gave an in depth history about the area and background of the original inhabitants of New Orleans.
