We got to swim with dolphins, but the reef snorkel was the best part. We saw a sea turtle up close, an octopus, and our guide Dre pointed out a manta ray right behind us. On the way back we even saw a baby dolphin jump out of the water! I would definitely do this again

This is such an excellent trip and one of my personal favorites. Exciting you got to see some Manta Rays during the day as that is rare!

I am not sure if this is the right boat tour but we booked with C Big Island Tours without knowing it is only a ticketing company. the reservation was easy to make but what we did not get was detailed information on the tour company. Our tour was with Splasher and it was supposed to be swimming with wild dolphins and snorkel at Kealakekua Bay. Boat was a Zodiac boat and ride was extremely bumpy. if you are older than 50, you may want to rethink this tour as it was hard on your back and neck. After about 15 minutes of boat ride the captain stopped the boat and asked us what we want from the tour. Swim with dolphins and encounter many sea creatures or go to Kealakekua Bay. Since many wanted to swim with dolphins the captain decided to head north instead of to the south of Island. He told us that the Kealakekua bay was overrated as a good snorkeling spot and he will be taking us to a better spot teaming with various kinds of fish. Our first stop was awesome as we saw so many dolphins and they came right at your side. They were swimming all around us. We were able to stay in the water for about 15 minutes or so. Then we headed to another spot where supposedly more dolphin swimming opportunities but the dolphins are swimming way below the surface. 'The third spot he took us was supposed to be the better snorkeling spot than Kealakekua Bay. the place had very interesting rock formations but hardly any fish . We saw more fishes and turtles when we snorkeled at the Kahalu'u Beach park previous day. The tour was probably good for those who only want to swim with Dolphins. I really enjoyed that part but that was about it. The Snorkeling spot was not as awesome. After the snorkeling, we did see a few Whale spouts but we were too far away. the Captain did try to look for more but we just could not get close enough to appreciate the whale sighting. If you only want to swim with dolphins and young enough to appreciate a very bumpy ride, this is for you.

Aloha Marie, thanks for the review. This trip normally includes going south towards Kealakekua Bay and yes snorkeling with dolphins. There are several companies that depart before us including fishing, parasailing and other snorkel companies that usually give our captain a heads up of where the dolphins are. That morning there wasn't any dolphins sighted down south which is uncommon but happens with nature. The captain knew he wasn't able to provide both is why he took a vote as to what everyone really wanted. Its always easy to go snorkel over coral off any beach but you can snorkel with the wild dolphins off a beach. As you probably noticed the dolphin pods up north usually run in high numbers up to the 100's ! Glad you got to see a few whales ! Thanks again
