I really enjoyed our time on the Brew-Ed tour. Our guide was friendly and knowledgable about beer and history of brewing and we visited three different breweries. The only feedback I have is that the group size was WAY too large (like 20 people, I think) and it was really hard to hear the leader at certain points. Perhaps there should be a cut-off limit for the group size. The first bar we went to also had a soccer game going on and it was blaring over the speakers and it was impossible to hear anything that was being said. It'd be ideal if the organizer could ensure that the bar will be quieter during the assigned Brew-Ed tours as I'm sure the tour brings in a fair amount of business for them. All in all, great day event though!

Thank you so much for your review! I definitely appreciate your feedback as well. I remember the tour you were on was at the cap of 16 people, which is a large group, but it is normally still small enough for everyone to hear. Unfortunately, I didn't know that there was going to be a big soccer match that day. Hi-Wire is very active in the soccer community and people gather there for games. It normally isn't a problem, but I agree that it was very noisy in there that day. I am sorry to learn that you weren't able to hear everything I was saying. Your comment has prompted me to purchase an amplifier. I've toyed with the idea for awhile, but it seems that it is time. I definitely want my guests to hear all of the information, and if you'd like to email me through my website I would be happy to offer you a voucher to use the next time you're in town to make up for the loud environment that day. Again, thank you for the kind words, and I look forward to hearing from you.

When did brewing beer start? How did India Pale Ale come about? Why do breweries make more lagers than other beers? At what temperature should you drink beer? Why do some breweries use nitro in their beer? On the BREW-ed Tour, Cliff our guide is the ultimate BEER EXPERT! He answers all these questions and MORE! Actually Cliff is a Certified Cicerone, meaning he is certified and educated as a beer professional and elevates the beer experience for consumers. The BREW-ed Tour definitely lives up in both educating us on beer and offering good of samples of beers at three different breweries. In addition to the beer education and tasting, Cliff shared numerous fascinating tales and stories of the history of Asheville, beer, and more. Our tour started at Hi-Wire Brewing, which is just over a year old and already expanding. As Cliff gives us extensive history on beer and the brewery, we sample the various Hi-Wire beers. Moving on to Twin Leaf Brewery, Cliff shares the concept of this brewery with comfy welcoming picnic tables as we sample more tasty beers. Finishing up at Green Man Brewing with its craft seasonal and specialty brews, we finish our educational beer tour. Cliff excels in providing a most informative, educational, and fun beer tour. Having been on many beer tours, the BREW-ed Tour added a great dimension as Cliff provide so much knowledge and insight into beer making and beer history. The tasting was fun at each brewery and Cliff explained the concept each brewery we visited.

We took the mid-day tour (from 11:30-1:30) and saw 2 breweries. At the first (Hi Wire) we tried 3 (I think?) samples and got the full review of how the brewing process works. Then we walked to Wicked Weed and tried 2 (I think) additional samples. While at Wicked Weed we saw one of the only open fermentation tanks on the East Coast. That was pretty cool. During the tours, Cliff provided background on the start up processes that craft breweries go through and different business models. Sounds boring, but he makes it really interesting. He'd be a great professor. Pros: Cliff is really interesting and does an amazing job of making the science of brewing understandable and entertaining; the beers were yummy. Cons: Cliff is a little bit soft-spoken (maybe he'd just lost his voice a little) and it was hard to hear over the bar tvs and the sounds of the brewery equipment. Definitely recommend.

Thank you so much for your great review! I'm glad you had a good time. I appreciate the kind words about making the brewing process interesting. I am also happy to say that we tried four beers at the first stop and three at the second stop, so the beer must have been working. :) I am sorry to hear that you had a bit of trouble hearing at times. I remember on your tour that glycol tank behind us at Hi-Wire kept cranking up, making it difficult. I wish I had known as I would have been happy to speak more loudly. I want to make sure everyone on my tours is able to hear everything. Thanks again - Cliff
