Our pick up from hotel was 7:48am so really early start. We saw the bus coming down Washington Avenue, very distinctive. Our guide was Hagen, German born but lived in US for many years. After several more pick up in the city, we made our way to the airboat tour about 45 mins out of town. Hagen was really informative, handing our specimens to the party and giving us loads of info of what to expect at the Everglades park. We had a short wait for the airboat tour which was great, if not noisy, but we did see a few gators en route in their natural habitat. The second part of the tour was a show with some trapped gators, which wasn’t as good IMO. Bit cheesy. Gift shop and reassembly before we left for the city tour. We dropped a few people off but then surprised to find that we were being dropped back to hotel too as the city tour was continuing in German speak, but we were to be collected by another guide in a short while. The short while turned into over an hour, whilst we threw some food down on the go, we had a lot more time to do something more civilised!
Anyway we were collected by Christian in a black VIP mini coach and found we were getting a 121 City tour. We started doing a few local areas, like the Jewish area which was relevant to the history of Miami that Christian was imparting us with. Really interesting. Next to Ocean Drive and info about Art deco which we had kinda self done the day before but again the additional info was really informative. Next to South Pointe, the southerly most area on Miami Beach, a lovely riverside park and watch the massive ships leave port. We had a surprise extra tour round Star island where the rich and famous life before moving onto the new part of the city, Brickell. At each of these points we had a short time to get out take photos and have photos of us taken too. Then to Wynwood, a former ghetto which is being gentrified and is now covered in amazing murals and street art and fast becoming a massive tourist attraction. Again we had half an hour to stretch our legs, get a drink and get some photos.
It was getting late by now and I thought that was it, but we were off to Little Havana to soak up the Cuban atmosphere, have a longer wander and when in Miami, get a mojito, which was delish.
We finally were dropped off at about 7pm. What a long but
fabulous day all thanks to the fantastic hosting and information provided by both Hagen and Christian. The tours would not have been the same without you!
This wasn’t the cheapest tour but 100% worth the money IMO. Thanks 😃
