This is our first visit here. We tried to see the areas that most interested us. The Egyptian display had a great display of life in ancient egypt, with a tomb display, mummies and artifacts. We then had to see the dinosaur exhibit. "Sue" a complete tyrannosaurus skeleton. Many others including whales and other extinct animals. There were other exhibits of primitive man in America. Also we liked the gem and meteorite exhibit. There were too many other exhibits to recall. We spent most of a day here and enjoyed everything. There were several school groups there and they loved the museum. The museum had docents that did a wonderful job of involving the students and encouraging their interest. Go see this museum if you are in Chicago.

We took the one hour tour that gave us an overview of the museum which helped us get oriented and gave us interesting facts about the various exhibits. We had a special pass to the Bug Exhibit. Sue and the other dinosaurs are interesting Enjoyed the gems and meteors. The first one section we toured was the Egyptian exhibit...and I was glad to see they actually located Egypt in Africa where it belongs. (so many places don't) I liked the display tomb and the real preserved art on the walls I enjoyed several of the Africa exhibits....including the man eating lions By afternoon, I was getting tired, and was glad to discover the Americas exhibit. This has benches to sit and listen to short and long videos on various cultures. Wonderful amount of artifacts, displayed well.

I could easily spend an entire day just here! Unfortunately, I only had a few hours so I focused on the exhibits that I was most interested in. Definitely wish I had more time here. At a minimum should allow 3 hours to visit, 5 hours would probably be great. My favorite exhibits were Ancient Egypt, Ancient America's, The Maori meeting House from New Zealand and the Precious Gems. Exhibits include Bug Encounters, China, Wildlife Photography, Evolving Planet, Ancient Egypt, Water, Birds, American Indians, Ancient Americas, Wilderness, Science, Plants, Meteorites, Africa, Underground Adventure, Brewing, Precious Gems and so much more!
