We booked this trip only about two weeks prior to our trip since we were a little out of our regular hiking preparedness. We did the boomerang paddle up Santa Elena Canyon with a float back. The river luckily came up a few inches the day before and it was just enough to paddle through the faster spots going up river. We left on time from the Terlingua headquarters and had an hour long drive to the launch point at Santa Elena. During the drive Erin gave us a geological history lesson on the park and it was the perfect thing for the drive. The carry and launch was well organized and after a brief canoe primer we were off. We paddled up stream in the pools and either pulled through the shallows or paddled hard through the slight rapids. They constantly gave directions for the changing river conditions and kept us together as a group. We went through a few and took an early lunch when rain started. They gave us insight into life in Terlingua. Afterwards, we went back to the launch down stream paddling the slight rapids and the extraction and load process was easy. Erica then gave us a history lesson of the region on the ride home. The day was great and relaxing, informative, and at the end we felt like we made two new friends. Erica and Erin are professional, affable, honest and informative. From guiding to swapping Big Bend hiking stories and history to geology, they make you feel like family. You can’t go wrong.

We canoed down the Rio Grande in the Santa Elena Canyon. Our guide, Erin, was a gem. She was knowledgeable and encouraging. I am in my 70’s and not a canoe connoisseur of paddling a canoe, but her coaching skills are top notch. It is the only way to experience the full beauty of this canyon. We were very satisfied with this company, their equipment, and their capable guides.

Twin sisters Erin & Erica combine Southern charm and hospitality to create a memorable experience. Floating down the river in Santa Elena Canyon was the highlight of our trip. Highly recommended!!!
