I booked the all-day tour to celebrate my 60th birthday with a group of 10 well traveled women from all over the country. We were blown away by this unique experience. Suzette was delightful in accommodating our various requests and needs, helping to outfit us in water shoes and quick dry pants. Garl and Geoff were outstanding naturalists, educating us about this delicate ecosystem and its flora and fauna. We started the day with a walk on the Anhinga trail where we saw an array of wildlife, including its amazing namesake bird. We then rode in a comfortable van to the Cypress Domes where we walked through knee deep water to an alligator hole surrounded by ferns, orchids, cypress trees and bromeliads. Next we went kayaking on a beautiful lake and through a mangrove forest. As the sun was setting, we gathered our kayaks in the center of the lake and Geoff broke open a bottle of delicious champagne. Simply wonderful. But the day was not over. We went back to the Anhinga trail, this time outfitted with flashlights for a night time hike to see the eerily florescent eyes of alligators, fish, birds, spiders and insects. The experience provided was spectacular. The guides were in tune to the unique interests or needs of individuals in the group. We traveled at a comfortable pace. There were adequate bathroom breaks. We were well outfitted. With the exception of the first hike on the Anhinga trail, we ran into no other people. It was us, our wonderful guides and nature. This was the perfect way to fully experience the magic of the Everglades.

We booked an all-day adventure with Garl, and it was the best way to see the Everglades. Our adventure included a brief walk to an alligator hole, kayaking through the mangroves and a nature walk at night with flashlights. Garl has an "eagle eye" and was always on the look out for wildlife that would have been impossible to spot on our own. If you enjoy wildlife, don't hesitate to book this tour. You won't be disappointed!

I knew one thing I wanted to see in southern flirida was the Everglades, and Garl's was the best way to do so. My husband and I booked a day-long tour for a Tuesday, and though I was a little apprehensive about the amount of activity (being that I would be 24 weeks pregnant at the time of this excursion), it was really quite manageable - assuming you're at a reasonable level of fitness. The slogging was definitely the most "difficult" part of the trip, but take that for what it's worth as my center of gravity wasn't normal and I didn't fall down or anything. I did, however acquire myself a walking stick that helped immensely as I could then focus on my surroundings instead of immediate foot placement. We did spot "the competitor" tour group going into a slog and I was jealous to see that THEY had all been provided with walking sticks. But our group was MUCH smaller, with only 4 total plus our guide. Make sure to be early so you can stop at Robert's fruit stand for a smoothie. And do yourself a favor and pack a lunch so you aren't stuck eating from a convenience store - which we were actually lucky to do as we stopped at Flamingo for lunch. Bring a camera, as our guide did not have one. Waterproof would be best. There are times where items can be left in the van (your car will be left at the meeting point and you'll be shuttled into the park by van). But anything you bring - lunch aside - should be easily portable. There was a cooler, but no ice (seemed to be the theme of our trip). Mosquitos definitely came out at the hint of sundown, and I managed to acquire at least a dozen despite my efforts to thwart the bastards with spray and a mosquito shirt - at times. And even though we weren't able to do the saltwater paddle due to wind conditions, we got a full day and a great value! (Also bring cash to tip. Or you can be like me and do it via PayPal after the fact.) Here's just a sampling of what we saw... Wood stork Cigar orchid Roseate Spoonbill American Alligator Brown Water Snake Green Anole Green Heron Soft shell turtle Yellow belly slider Osprey American Crocodile Bard owl Cyprus knees Southern black Racer snake Cormorant
