Our full-day tour with Erin was a trip highlight! We got muddy, and got up close and personal with the flora and fauna of the Everglades (including snakes and gators) on foot and in kayaks. It doesn't seem like this is everyone's bag, but it's exactly the experience we were looking for. We appreciated all of the knowledge that Erin imparted, and the interesting Everglades stories she shared. We can't wait to come back to the 'Glades and spend another day with this outfitter! It was a dream!

We went on a full day trip with Garl himself. We started on a off-trail hike/slough slogging in the Everglades. Initially we were dubious as we were slogging through knee deep mud and weren't quite sure what the destination was. But Garl kept things interesting as he pointed out interesting plant life and wildlife including snakes, air-plants, birds, and orchid varieties etc. Then he led us to an alligator nest and an alligator water hole and we had multiple close encounters with these magnificent creatures. Garl really knows this ecosystem including all of the wildlife, history, stories about everglades, and details about these areas (down to where you can wash your shoes at the end of the walk). He is also an avid photographer and did film-making with National Geographic in the Everglades. He calls the cypress forests his office as he is there all the time. He knows how the alligators are going to behave, which route the alligator is about to take, what the frustration level of that alligator has by its "facial expression", absolutely amazing. He is careful not to disrupt wildlife and leave little footprint. We also went on a mangrove kayak trip and saw more wildlife, including all sorts of birds, fish, more alligators, and then onwards with a Florida Bay kayak trip seeing sharks and flamingos, and a beautiful sunset. Then we finished the night with a night walk looking at alligators come alive at night and tracking them swimming in the water with lanterns. It was worth all the time and money spent. There is definitely some adventure loving and off-trail comfort level required, but it is a truly memorable and wonderful experience. (Garl has the good quality mosquito outfits from "Original Bug Shirt and pants", wear them. seriously. the mosquitoes are vicious). ps: there is no cell reception anywhere in the everglades, so just be prepared to be off line for 8-10 hours.

This is a very strenuous for the elderly. Definitely no disabled ramps. We are in our late sixties and made it through but it was a struggle, a major struggle. That said, we experienced the Florida Everglades like no other tour could have provided. Started up with a short walk, maybe 1/2 - 3/4 mile round trip max. The issue for us was the semi-dry on top only mud. Provided a very challenging walk with the mud having a very uneven bottom from 1/2 to a foot and a half deep. Wife's water shoes failed by refusing to stay fastened at the Velcro straps. Our guide Erin, was highly vested in our care and comfort and swapped shoes with my wife. What we saw close up would have been impossible to see in an airboat or any boat to include a kayak. We say an alligator about 10 feet away as well as an amazing variety of plant life from air plants to rare blooming plants. We then boarded the kayaks and navigated a few mikes of ponds and mangrove trails probably some only known by our guide. Say many gators some resting, some swimming toward us close enough to clearly see their eyes. All cases were safely handled by Erin as she constantly ensured we were in no danger while at the same time afforded amazing views of the animals in their natural habitat. We took a late afternoon meal break at a major ranger compound with rest rooms and a few crocodiles! For us this was a very rare observation as we witnessed a courting "dance" by two of the animals. Last activity was a night walk along a modern area within the park that had a extensive boardwalk/viewing platform infrastructure. It was totally dark minus the full moon. Erin handed out red-tinted hand-held spotlights and we freely used them to spot and study many, many alligators. Afterwards we returned to our starting point, said our sad good-by's to our party and left. All together we were on an adventure of a lifetime that lasted close to nine hours. So many thank-you's to Erin and the tour company owner, Garl, for an adventure that we will recount to friends and family for years and years to come!
