The Everglades is truly an amazing sanctuary, full of wildlife and rare plants, however, not all the "jewels" of this park are easily viewed. I'm a wildlife biologist and worked in the Keys for several years, spending a considerable amount of time in the Everglades. Yet, it wasn't until I took a tour with Garl that I first hiked into some of the Cypress domes and paddled the hidden waterways through the park's Mangrove forests. Garl has spent years (actually decades at this point) exploring the Park, and his experience shows. There's no guarantee of what wildlife you'll see or what orchids might be in bloom when you're visiting, but I've never been disappointed. When my parents visited me in the Keys, I told them we had to go paddling with Garl. They had a great time, it didn't hurt that my mom is an avid birder and we saw (to name a few) Flamingos, Barred Owls, Rosette Spoonbills, and my favorite the Black-billed Skimmers. Actually, to say we "saw" the skimmers is would be conservative, we had a flock go right in-between our kayaks, skimming the surface of the water with their bills as they flew (very cool, you could almost reach out and touch them). It's those experiences that make Garl's tour so unique. Certainly you could see some wildlife through binoculars or from one of the Park's boardwalks, but it doesn't compare to seeing them up close from atop a kayak. Garl is knowledgeable, experienced and extremely friendly. You don't have to worry about finding yourself on a tour with some college student just doing this for a summer job. Best of all, if you go on a saltwater paddle, you end the trip by sitting in your kayak out in the bay watching the light from the setting sun as it reflects across the water. You won't regret this experience.

Most people who go to Everglades National Park see it through the windows of their car. While sawgrass marsh is a major component of the everglades, exploring the less traveled path with the tour guides of Coastal Kayaking, Garl and Don, will open your eyes to a whole new experience! Unveiling a world that the average Everglades visitor never gets to see. I have been on this tour over a dozen times, and each time Garl is able to show me something new. He has spent years scouting out the best spots for whatever it is you're in to, be it birds, fish, coral reefs, reptiles, amphibians, plants, you name it! I am a biologist and can confidently say the knowledge that Garl has of the Everglades is rare and takes many years of experience to acquire. Other tours offered in the area are often led by folks who may like to kayak, but have an utter lack of the natural history and animals in the everglades, and even worse, lack the knowledge of navigating the backwoods of the everglades which can be a major safety issue! Garl has the knowledge and experience to enlighten you to see what the everglades really is about. He has shown me amazing flora and fauna including flamingos (!), gorgeous everglades orchids, enchanted cypress domes full of epiphytes, crocodiles, alligators, native plants, manatees, sharks, and the list goes on and on! He tailors trips to your needs and comfort level making sure each customer is satisfied. Having known Garl for years now, I can confidently say that if you are looking for a tour that shows you the REAL everglades, book now, because you just found it!

Garl was our guide and did a wonderful job sharing his enthusiasm for the Everglades with the group. We hiked to two alligator holes (yes - you will get wet up to your knees). The water is crystal clear in the Everglades - a bit of a surprise. We then kayaked around 9 mile pond and watched the sun set. Finished up a wonderful day by "shining" for alligators. Garl really has so much information. I highly recommend this tour
