Good fun... but be aware... you will not have enough time to complete the track in the San Francisco traffic and will get charged extra for going over allocated time!

The Sat Nav on these things is next to useless - voice guidance only, no visuals. If you know where you are going, great, but if you make an in-correct turning then Sat Nav goes silent and does not pick up where you are quick enough, so your left all on your own with a paper map which is provided. Not helpful, especially if this is your first time to the USA and driving around in this country.

A good hint is wait until someone else who knows the route gets going in their car and follow them!

Three years ago my husband and I did a GoCars tour on our honeymoon and it was a fantastic experience, this time with 6 of our friends, unfortunately it wasn't. We pre-booked 4 GoCars from the Beach Street branch and picked up our cars absolutely fine. We were offered some more powerful GoCars, but as we had done it before with the original ones we thought we would be fine this time around. We didn't get off to a good start as we were directed along a different route due to roadworks. Of course this couldn't be helped, but we weren't given any written instructions and in the middle of roadworks, trying to drive an unfamiliar car and also driving on the opposite side of the road, we turned down a wrong road. Finally after getting on our way properly we stopped off to take some photos and turned off the cars. When it came to restarting them, one of them wouldn't started. We then struggled to get it started for 5-10 minutes. Eventually it got started and we were on our way again. Further along we came across more roadworks/closed road and a diversion so we had to resort to our own GPS to find out how to get around it as the road signs were unclear. Then even further into the route we came to the hilly part of San Francisco where unfortunately the GoCars where just not suitable (anymore) for getting up the hills. On a number of occasions the passengers had to get out of the car and push it up the hill! Finally towards the end again more roadworks meant that we were unable to go down Lombard Street, something which we had all been looking forward to. We were not told on when we set off that this was the case. Perhaps next time it would have nice to have been warned if some of the sights were not accessible.
