Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
Your expert guide will meet you at the Pavilion next to the Upper Falls Parking Area at 8AM. This is also the staring point for Uncle Tom's Trail. The hike is a 6-mile loop. The hike is along the Canyon Rim, through the forest out to Ribbon Lake, and then past a geyser basin, Clear Lake, and the Wapiti Meadows with big views of the Hayden Valley. If you hike one trail in Yellowstone this is it!

Josh led our group on an amazing hike to Lone Star geyser. Hiking with Josh was like hiking with a friend who also happens to know a lot of local history, geography, and wildlife information. Meeting up was quick and easy, he had all the gear ready to go, and the packed lunches were great. If I come back to Yellowstone, I will hike with Yellowstone Hiking Guides again.

I was scheduled on the Lower Loop Van tour for Saturday, July 20th 2019 and got a call the night before that they cancelled the tour, but that they wanted to reschedule me onto the Sunday, July 21st 2019 tour. The tour starts at 7am and leaves from Canyon Village (about a 2 hour drive from Emigrant, MT where I was staying). I get to Canyon Village on Sunday morning only to get a call that they are canceling again. This is peak season and they canceled the tour twice in one weekend, despite perfect weather. So now I have to scramble to plan a day that I thought was going to be a full day tour. If your time is valuable to you, I would plan your days yourself and not use this company. It’s very likely they will leave you hanging. I would not recommend this tour group to anyone.

Thank you for your review. This was a last-minute booking. But we should have been able to honor it. We were unable to find a guide for the tours. Our deepest apologies for the mix up.

Josh was a really good guide. He was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the area, and seemed interested in all the hikers. My expectations were not in line with the hike. I'm 65 y.o. and in decent shape for my age. Knowing I can have difficulty with moderate elevations in hiking, I tend to stay away from them. Since this was a Lamar River Valley hike and the description advised it had little elevation, I assumed this was the hike for me. It was real tough for me and Josh stopped 4-6 times for breaks, not including lunch. Personally, I was not able to appreciate the beautiful scenery as I would have liked, because I was working at the top of my ability. Usually out of breath, or recovering. The second half after we climbed out of the river bed was easier than the first. This was to be a 6 hour hike and we completed it in 5. I believe most would have liked a slower pace, if not for physical reasons, to take pictures and have more time to bask in the natural beauty. People who are physically up for a moderate hike in gorgeous Lamar Valley could really love this hike. It just wasn't for me.

Thanks for the review! Sorry the hike was on the tough side. We certainly appreciate your input. This hike is by no means absolutely flat. We do climb over a couple rolling hills on this hike for views of the valley and the potential to spot wolves.
