Really enjoyed this, although the overall experience was more train travel than the actual Grand Canyon. High-spirited, friendly, guides, train staff, and entertainers make it enjoyable and pleasant. Be ready for lots of opportunities to tip the guides and entertainers, though no direct solicitations are made for such. Wildlife, when cooperating, provides great enroute side interest, as we saw Prong Horn Antelope, deer, prairie dogs, rabbits, and, of course, squirrels. Be sure to take in the grandeur of the "longest tunnel in Northern Arizona."
I would recommend you do this train ride for, at least, one of your visits to the Canyon. As the driver of the family, it was nice to sit back, relax, and let someone else do the worrying.
We would probably never get to do this with our adult son, who has autism and is sensitive to tense situations, such as a mock robbery. The train robbery was fun, but an optional experience, without the robbery element, would be nice for people with sensory issues, such as can be typical with autism.
Overall wholesome, fun, and relaxing, though, long experience. Families may enjoy Halloween and Christmas, The Polar Express, train rides.
