We purchased a package which included two nights in the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in Williams AZ, a round-trip ride on the Grand Canyon Railway, one night in Maswik Lodge in the Grand Canyon, and 4 buffet meals in Williams. We added the Dome Car going to the Grand Canyon and First Class returning, plus a 1.5-hour bus tour and buffet lunch in the Grand Canyon. We were pleased with everything and enjoyed ourselves. The only surprise for us was that there wasn't a lot of nice scenery between Williams and the Grand Canyon, but they provided food, drinks, and entertainment on the train.

What a great experience! The day starts out in the old depot where you pick up your tickets at the vintage ticket booth. From here you get to enjoy an old fashioned western shootout but fortunately no one gets hurt...which is good since they need to show up again. You now board the train in one of five different car configurations from coach to luxury. The ride north to the canyon is filled with information by your personal attendant as well as musical interludes from balladeers on guitar, fiddle and banjo. Arrival at the canyon is exciting as the anticipation grows for the first glimpse of the "hole in the ground". Several tours are available at the canyon or you can go it on your own. There is time for lunch and sightseeing along the canyon rim. You can even start down one of the trails, to say you "hiked the canyon", but there isn't time to go to the bottom unless you don't plan on leaving on the returning train that day. Some folks choose to stay overnight and can ride back the next day if they wish. The return ride back to Williams is a little more restful since most riders are somewhat tired from the day. However, there are still some things to see on the way back and you will be informed of these as you go. The different cars have different levels of snacks and drinks you receive or can buy depending on the car class you have chosen. There are also several travel packages to chose for your trip from a one day trip up and back to overnight stays at both Williams and the Grand Canyon. It is definitely an adventure that you will remember.

We enjoyed the privacy and freedom to move around the luxury car ... it is SO worth the extra money. There were no young children running around ... just adults who were enjoying the scenery on the way to the Grand Canyon. The hostess had a laugh that got annoying after awhile, but was nice other wise. In this car, they serve a morning snack and drinks, and a sweet snack try in the afternoon. They have a hokey Western cowboys that perform a pretend train robbery ... and essential beg for tips ... if you don't give them something, they really bug you (give them a dollar for some peace!). The hostess spent a great deal of time towards the end of the trip to talk about tips. They had musicians also in the afternoon ... nice music, also wanted tips. There was a photographer who took a beautiful picture of us (of course, we bought it!). Overall, we are very pleased (disappointed with the hounding for tips at the end)
