I recently took a ride on the Grand Canyon Railway as a part of a tour package. At first, it sounded like a great addition to the itinerary. However, very quickly I realized it was not what I had pictured in my mind. I think most people imagine they will see scenery along the route to the canyon. This is definitely not the case. There really is nothing to look at. The car attendants, however, did attempt to point out items of interest along the way and speak about various things to keep us entertained. The worst part about the ride was the "entertainment" on board. When I read there would be entertainment, I assumed a guitar player/singer. However, these folks also attempted to be stand up comedians and did not do a very good job. The jokes and the carrying on became a bit much. I would have preferred to just have the train ride with nothing for entertainment or possibly just guitar playing/singing. After their performance, these folks then paraded through the train cars speaking to each couple/person, most likely searching for tips. I think this would be ok for a family with small kids, but for adults it's really a bit much.
