This was our first visit to any part of the Grand Canyon. We took advice from other reviewers and stopped here before visiting the National Park itself at the South Rim.
TIP: We saved some money by getting tickets through Groupon.
TIP #2: If you arrive when the site opens (typically at 9 am), there is almost no crowd and no waiting for the bus.
For our party of four, three people added the Skywalk to the basic ticket, while I had just the basic ticket. Upon arrival, we were directed to a parking lot where we could see helicopters and buses. The basic ticket gets you on the bus, which stops at the Skywalk at Eagle Point as well as Guano Point. You can visit either or both spots. Eagle Point is named for a rock formation resembling an eagle. There is space to walk around, and sample Native American dwellings in a yard near the Skywalk. There is also a restaurant at Eagle Point. Except for the Skywalk, there are no railings, so visitors should be careful when taking photos at the canyon rim.
After visiting the Skywalk, taking photos of the eagle formation, and walking around, we stepped back on the bus to visit Guano Point. At Guano Point, named for a former guano mine, there is a bit of hiking (again, no railings) as well as a cafe.
The reason for the three stars is that this is more expensive than entering the south rim, and there is less to do--there are no extended hiking trails, no lodging, and no camping, so this is designed to be a brief stop. Also, as of this writing in June 2021, getting here from Las Vegas involves a long drive on a two-lane road through Dolan Springs, part of which was in need of repaving. We would have added the zip line, but it is not operating at this time.
If you are looking for a short visit that is closer to Las Vegas, this might be worth your time. But this pales compared to visiting the main site at the south rim.
