Harlem Sunday Gospel Experience

Aperçu
It is an iconic scene often captured in film and photographs – beautifully dressed women with impressive hats in Harlem heading to church for Sunday worship. But, it’s more than fashion or a show, Harlem congregants consider church worship and church family an integral part of life and a source of weekly spiritual sustenance.  Sunday Gospel in Harlem invites you to be a part of this custom by respectfully joining a local church family for an hour of worship including gospel.

Please note the entire church service is 90 minutes or more in duration. The tour group stays for a hour, departing before the sermon begins. If you wish to stay on your own for the entire service, please notify the tour guide when checking in. If you choose to stay for the entire service you will be on your own and will miss the walking tour.

If this tour is completely booked, please consider the Wednesday Gospel Praise Music option.

Joined the gospel tour on Wednesday. The church service was very good, expressive! But the tour itself was mediocre, we waited 15 minutes because some people were late, the group was so huge (30+ people) so we could not hear well what the guide said.

We were greeted by Doris, our guide and an absolute star. She knows everything there is to know about Harlem, its people and its history. The visit to the gospel service at the Canaan Church was very moving and uplifting and an experience not to be missed. Thank you Doris, it was a real pleasure spending time with you.

We were so lucky with our guide. A lady on her 60’s who was born and raised in Harlem as she said. She showed us the neighborhood without any hurry, walking slow and giving peculiar details about every corner, and offering her opinion on everything (very important for me). She got us best seats in the church and was very helpful with everyone despite the lack of respect to the service for most of the tourists. Is disgusting that people stands, walk, talk loud and when the moment of giving money they give 1 poor dollar while they spend 50 in a stupid meal in Times Square. After the service she guide us more in the neighborhood and even took us for lunch to an amazing place and had lunch with us for 1 hour and explained tons of things about Harlem and the States. Priceless guide. God bless you
