Late this September we had the good fortune of meeting Tammy Gass owner of Savor Healdsburg, a food tour company. We have never done food tours ANYWHERE on our travels but since Tammy was such a delightful person and knowledgeable "foodie" we thought we would give it a try. The tour is a walking tour of an assortment of the best food, wine and yes, even tea purveyors, in the quaint town of Healdsburg, CA. The experience was fabulous-and I must say I initially had my doubts. Tammy knows the history of town and shares it as you stroll along from one delightful gastronomic experience to another. Everything is impeccably orchestrated. Tammy explains each experience and the various courses you will be experiencing . The dining includes delightful wine pairings with the food and on our tour we experienced the art and rich customs around drinking tea by a foremost expert in the subject. Also included was a wine flight tasting from one of the well known local vineyards. Ending the experience was dessert at an establishment specializing in homemade pies and small batch ice cream. Delicious. I must say that SAVOR Healdsburg was one of the most enjoyable afternoons we spent. Every tasting was superb, Tammy was a spectacular tour leader (and clearly a skilled and knowledgable business owner). The excellent food, wine, etc.,and the organization of the entire experience can not be overly lauded. DO THE TOUR if you are in Healdsburg with Tammy. (Note: she has equally competent food tour leaders but I can only speak to Tammy's delightful personality - but I'm sure if it is her company they are all superb).
