Joining the guide, Matt, on the tour is like being with a perfect mix of foodie and historian.
Pros:
- As a fan of history, Matt had me hooked with his introduction and overview of Chelsea and the Flatiron District. This oriented us to the uniqueness of the tour and the focus it would have for the duration of the adventure.
- Blended in with this 'just right' amount of history, were the food stops. Being guided by Matt was like hanging out with a local that had the inside scoop on what to do and where to go. A 9th floor chocolate heaven, a contemporary Russian restaurant, a historical Jewish deli with a unique story, and seeing cheese made in the middle of Manhattan. Each stop had a unique past that Matt brought to life with his stories and made relevant for the present.
- At each stop, the food choices were not only unique to the venues, but also great conversation starters as our group shared stories of growing up with some of the items and being introduced to new ones.
- The pace of the tour was just right - history, food, walk, repeat. Kept it lively and engaging for the duration of the experience.
Cons:
- Nothing on the tour itself - just keep in mind that you'll be walking from venue to venue. Bring your comfortable shoes and some water on a hot day!
Kudos to Hidden NYC (and our tour guide, Matt) for crafting a unique experience that made a tourist feel like I had a behind the scenes view of the Big Apple!
