As someone who has worked in the Chelsea/Flatiron area for many years, I was impressed by the way this tour fully captures the feel of the neighborhood. All of the stops can be classified as hidden gems and we had enough time at each one to experience the unique character of the location. There was a relaxed, intimate vibe that led to many enjoyable interactions with the servers and other members of our group. At times it felt like a scene in one of Anthony Bourdain's shows. In terms of the food, I found it to be a satisfying blend of traditional and contemporary dishes, with a nice balance of sweet and savory and just the right amount of alcohol. The tastes are presented in a somewhat unexpected sequence, which adds to the fun like a clever plot twist in a film. Our guide Matt, a resident of the neighborhood, provided a fascinating narration with a blend of personal anecdotes and historical references that brought every block and building to life. Having a small group created a dynamic that felt more mellow and personal than large walking tours I have done. It is a format that I can see working equally well for first-time NYC visitors, locals looking for a fun night out and co-workers trying to build rapport with each other.

What a great way to have spent my husband's birthday! My teenage sons, my husband and I joined this tour. Even though my husband is a native New Yorker, he enjoyed learning about the nooks and crannies of NYC he never knew about. He also enjoyed the clever way to celebrate his birthday. The tour took place through Chelsea and the Flatiron district. We learned about the food and the history of these areas. We had lots of yummy food and it was even enough to satisfy my two teenage sons. Not an easy feat! We will definitely go back to the restaurants we discovered. Matt, our tour guide, was fantastic and all the people we interacted with in the restaurants and our fellow 'tourists' were great too. The restaurant owners were willing to share the history of the restaurants and the origin of the food. What an amazing night. Thanks Matt.
