Randonnée Honolua Ridgeline

Aperçu
There is no other tour experience like this on Maui. You will get to see first hand what a working conservation team does on a daily basis and why it is so important. We go into forest that contains endangered and indigenous plants and animals that visitors wouldn't be able to easily see otherwise. Most of the Mountain areas on Maui are privately owned with restricted access. This tour gives you the access.

Kevin Schenk led the beautiful hike up the reserve. He is incredibly knowledgeable of the flora and fauna as well as cultural history. Hike is not too vigorous and OK for children. Highly recommend

Incredibly unique experience to hear about and see conservation land on private land! We learned a lot about the history of the authentic/invasive/foreign vegetation and the importance of the watershed conservation in the West Maui Mountains(and Hawaii in general). Really changed the way I think about water run off and how downstream ecosystems are affected by changes in that run off. Our guide Kevin was very knowledgeable and passionate about this area having a direct family history connection to it. Hike is pretty easy. Hiking or running shoes are still a good idea with the few slippery spots if it’s wet which it usually is. We really enjoyed the tour!

The steady fall of a light rain served only to enhance our experience of this rain forest. Kevin, the creator of the this tour and the curator of this open air museum, had rain slickers at the ready for our use. His narrative as we walked was beautifully delivered in a strong and easy voice. His charm and winning demeanor made our time with him interesting and comfortable. The subject of the tour dealt with the life and sustainability of the water supply to the island and its flower and fauna. Included was the fascinating story of his family which relocated from Michigan to Hawaii back when his father was contracted to complete a special engineering project.
