Big Morongo Canyon Preserve
Nestled among the Little San Bernardino Mountains in the Sand to Snow National Monument, the desert oasis at Big Morongo Canyon is one of the 10 largest cottonwood and willow riparian habitats in California. The upstream end of the canyon lies in the Mojave Desert, while its downstream portion opens into the Colorado Desert. There are numerous trails to walk and hike, including a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk through the marsh and riparian habitats. At 31,000 acres with elevations ranging from 600 feet on the canyon floor to 3000 feet at the top of the ridge, this diverse landscape has been an important part of the Morongo Basin’s natural and cultural history for almost two billion years.

Truly and honestly, I could not recommend this tour enough. We were in Palm Springs for our anniversary and my boyfriend’s 30th and this was by FAR the best part of our trip! Louis was so informative and passionate which made the trip so meaningful. The cafe he took us to before and after the tour was absolutely delicious - we’re vegans and they had so many options for us to both fuel up and cool off. The weather was also spectacular and the parts of the park that we went to were so secluded, we didn’t see other humans for hours! I would definitely recommend wearing a hat and bringing sunscreen and layers. Can never be too prepared! But seriously, this is a MUST if you are in the area and definitely the best way to experience Joshua Tree. Thanks again to Louis for an amazing time - hope to be back again soon!!!

Bruce was an absolutely fabulous tour guide! Amiable and a terrific fund of knowledge! He provided us with so much helpful detail of the region. He made the tour so interesting and fun. The area is so beautiful & unique, and we certainly would not have had the appreciation for the uniqueness without Bruce’s insights. Had a great stop at a bar/restaurant for dinner. Exceptionally good cuisine! This tour was the highlight of our visit to the Coachella Valley.

Josh was a great guide (and until he told us, we would have never guessed he had only been doing this tour for a few months). When my husband and I travel, we like to take guided tours so we can learn about the area - Josh covered all the bases...he was knowledgeable of the desert, the mountains, the plants, the wildlife and the history of the area and its infrastructure.
