Big Morongo Canyon Preserve
Nestled among the Little San Bernardino Mountains in the Sand to Snow National Monument, the desert oasis at Big Morongo Canyon is one of the 10 largest cottonwood and willow riparian habitats in California. The upstream end of the canyon lies in the Mojave Desert, while its downstream portion opens into the Colorado Desert. There are numerous trails to walk and hike, including a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk through the marsh and riparian habitats. At 31,000 acres with elevations ranging from 600 feet on the canyon floor to 3000 feet at the top of the ridge, this diverse landscape has been an important part of the Morongo Basin’s natural and cultural history for almost two billion years.

We had Patrick as our guide today on our tour out of Palm Springs. He was a fantastic story teller and his knowledge base was beyond our expectations. Leaving our tour left us with a greater appreciation and understanding of Joshua Tree Nat'l Pk. He knew so much about the geology of the park and landscaping topics. I would certainly recommend this to someone and specifically request Patrick as your guide.

I was part of a group of 6 who booked the hummer tour - we were picked up promptly and introduced to our guide, Patrick. From the moment we met Patrick we were entertained with geological info about the area, and stories of events that had happened. He's quite a storyteller. En Route to Joshua Tree National Park, we stopped at an area with amazing trees and again, Patrick shared stories that highlighted the sights and history of this part of California. From there we drove to a small town, where we were dropped off while Patrick went to get the Hummer. The tour of Joshua Tree National Park was unbelievable... but it was an extremely cold day. So when the tour provider says it can get cold - they mean it! Fortunately, Patrick came prepared with lots of blankets and down jackets when he picked us up in the hummer. The off-road riding in the hummer is a real experience - but it was so much fun! We saw things we've never seen before and got to the summit just around sunset! It was simply beautiful! I'd do this tour again, there's so much to see... but perhaps on a warmer day :) We all agreed this was the highlight of our vacation in Palm Springs - even with the unusually cold weather! Patrick was a great guide and storyteller! If you're in the area - take this tour!

Great communication over email prior to arrival, v knowledgable guide who explained things and who’s passion FR the area was infectious. Joshua Tree is stunning and a real highlight of the tour. We took some time to get going due to a confusion over pick up addresses but was handled with politeness and humour.
