This was a lot of fun! Unfortunately the sea was a bit rough the day we went so we couldn't go into the caves, but we were able to view them from close by on the water. The tour guide Roman was very knowledgeable about the area and about the environment in general (he is a lifelong San Diegan(?)). I mistakenly thought this tour would take us close to the sea lions so I was a little bummed about that, but that's on me! We saw some tiger sharks at the onset of the trip but not much else swimming around - possibly because of how the sea was that day and also because it was December. I will say this is not the same as kayaking on a lake, you definitely have to work harder to stay in the right place and to be mindful of the waves - but it didn't feel dangerous at all. Just a bit of work if you aren't used to kayaking. It was really cool to be able to be out on the ocean in December - the benefits of California!

We were intimidated by the waves crashing on shore once we realized that we had to paddle out through the break and back. Not ideal for a December day, but we managed to stay mostly dry until getting doused by a wave at the end. We couldn’t go into any of the caves due to the conditions and only got close enough to see the silhouette of sea lions staring into the sun. All in all, it was a good workout. I would do it again in better weather.

The views and the trip was amazing. Our guide Koya was very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. Unfortunately, the sea was too rough that day to go into the caves, but I still really enjoyed being on the water and the overall experience.
