Like Aialik, Holgate Glacier is surrounded by steep cliffs, dense forests and towering mountain peaks. Visitors may see spectacular calving events as ice chunks break and crash into the ocean. Though rare, black bears have been sighted on the beaches in Holgate arm.

Absolutely recommend the Kenai Fjords park cruise. We chose the 6 hour tour in order to go deep into the National Park and it was worth it. We were so close to a tidewater glacier - such an awesome experience. Of course, we saw whales, seals, sea lions, sea otters and puffins!

We had a fabulous tour. Extremely well narrated for education about the history and wildlife in the area. Our guide was very courteous with little or no wake for smaller boaters and kayakers. He also stopped and pointed out marine and wildlife as he spotted them. The glaciers were fascinating and we saw seals sunbathing on an iceberg, sea lions sunning on a rock, puffins swimming and flying here and there and more. The most amazing part occurred when we happened upon a pod of about 13 humpback whales. They created a bubble net as they circled around a school of fish and then all their mouths emerged from the water as they swallowed their prey! An unusual sight to behold. Our captain quickly maneuvered the boat so the sun was behind us and photo opportunities were bountiful!! There were all ages aboard, from age 3-4 (liked the stairs more than sightseeing) to 88 who loved the sights!! A definite 5-Star adventure!!

Excellent experience. Saw everything we wanted to see except Orcas, but they can't control that. Only issue was the speaker system. Couldn't hear whether moving or stopped, outside the cabins.
