One of the overlooked wonders of Key West is the natural beauty. Watching the sun set from a boat in the Atlantic Ocean is something that simply cannot be described, but must be experienced.
There are a large number of companies offering sunset cruises, with amenities ranging from a full meal to a party boat (one such boat was blasting music quite loudly every time we passed them). What you are interested in will depend on which company you choose.
Personally, I wanted simplistic. The sunset is the star of the show, so I didn’t need a band or piped-in Jimmy Buffett music (no offense, I love Buffett) to make the cruise. In that regard, the America 2.0 was the perfect choice for me.
The two-hour cruise went around the harbor, channel, and into the Atlantic Ocean (where the captain humorously informed us we were closer to Cuba than the nearest Wal-Mart!). Appetizers (an assortment of cheeses, hummus, vegetables, and shrimp cocktail on this particular cruise) and beverages were included.
The sunset was spectacular. There’s something magical about seeing the sunset on the water.
In addition, those passengers who wanted to were allowed a “photo op” of actually steering the vessel!
The trip was beautiful and fun. I intend to do it again next time I’m in Key West.
