Adventures on the Gorge
Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V.  Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

Having rafted on Salmon River in Idaho my view on rafting is a bit tilted. That said, the excursion we had on the New River, with the great help of Adventures on the Gorge, was great. The staff was impeccably professional and we were blessed by a beautiful day. After checking in and getting gear we took an old school bus about 30 minutes north. Our guide, regrettably I forgot her name, was fantastic. A bit militant yes but she gave us everyone on the raft a full understanding of what we were in for and what we’d need to do to make it safe and exciting. For the summer the water was on the high side and made for an exciting ride down. We had just the right number of stops including visiting a super-cool (and cold) waterfall. If you go, don’t cheap out and leave immediately upon return. The professional pictures were great and worth every penny. Don’t forget your guide either.

Absolutely fantastic experience with Ray as our guide! Wonderful family memories. Just enough action without it being too crazy! Completely recommend this experience.

With everything going on in the world and just stressed. I decided to do a long awaited bucket list of White Water Rafting Adventure in Beautiful WV. WOW is an understatement Adventures on the Gorge was the place to be. The water was at higher levels than usual making this trip even more exciting. The trip had great people running the show without a good people giving you a life time experience that WOWS you this is it, Safety was number one we were given thru the whole trip, great river side lunch. But also what an absolute I mean absolutely a great time. We had the best River Guide John Weekly...hands down other than Ray Ray which is a freakin hoot. But please request him Mr. Weekly, you will thank me later I promise, they are known as the Colorado Boys coming to WV for peak season . I’m looking at going in 2 weeks. What a blast!
