Our cabin is located in Skyline, one of the best aurora viewing spots in Fairbanks, perched on a towering mountaintop far from the city lights. It faces a northern valley where the aurora frequently appears. Multiple outdoor viewing platforms provide ample space for guests to take photos, ensuring everyone enjoys a private, uninterrupted experience while marveling at the northern lights.

Inside the cabin, the flames in the hearth dance joyfully, casting a warm glow on the wooden ceilings and walls, creating a cozy and serene atmosphere. With a cup of hot chocolate in hand, you can admire the graceful dance of the aurora through the large glass windows, feeling as though it’s within reach. Outside, the world is still and silent, with only the aurora sweeping across the sky. The cabin becomes a hidden sanctuary where you are at one with nature, experiencing the profound tranquility and awe of the moment.

The lodge is located too close to town so is negatively impacted by the light polution. It is also at a low elevation and sits below the frequent low cloud cover. On our ocasion, the aurora was moderately active, but barely visible and only as slightly glowing areas in the clouds. Inside the lodge, the guide has a nice fire going in a pot belly stove, electric candles on the tables, and a large screen TV which shows aurora activity as seen from a camera at the university. However, all this light inside reflects off the windows making it impossible to see any possible activity outside. On the positive side, there were games and snacks available, and our guide was anxious to serve and eager to take photos of us and what little could be seen of the aurora. Our experience was one of bad luck with the weather, due to no fault of the tour, but the location is not the best. Choose a different tour for your money!

Hi George, Thank you for your feedback. The aurora was active throughout the evening, but due to the aurora index, it wasn’t very bright or dynamic. Unfortunately, we can’t control the weather, and we understand how that can be disappointing. Our lodge is located at a high elevation with a wide view, making it an ideal spot for aurora viewing. On the night of your tour, there were some clouds, but cloudy weather is common and can happen anywhere. The lodge serves as a waiting area, and when the aurora appears, our guide leads guests outside for the best viewing experience. Stella was wonderful. She was a great host and kept us informed of the situation in the skies. Unfortunately the clouds did not cooperate and we saw a few glimpses of the lights. Would still recommend to others
