Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

it was a long boat ride towards the Sheraton hotel water front, but we got to see 5 manta rays which was an awesome experience.

Our experience with Hawaii Oceanic was really good! Our trip time was delayed, but we received a phone call ahead of time to let us know that we could arrive later than original email stated (8:15p instead of 7:30p). We were greeted promptly, outfitted with wet suits, and given dry space on the boat for our bags and electronics. When we got to the snorkel spot, we waited only a few minutes before we saw many mantas! They got very close to us and were really amazing to watch. It was really a beautiful experience and I would HIGHLY recommend it! I have only one consideration for you before you go: if you have not snorkeled before, I recommend you practice snorkeling and floating flat on the water surface before you go on this trip. The friends I went with had not snorkeled before, and I think they would have been more comfortable and enjoyed it more if they had. You need not be a good swimmer or a good snorkeler to enjoy this experience though!

The first part of this tour is relatively ordinary; a nice enough boat trip out to the manta site, then a longer than necessary snorkel in uninspiring waters near the rocky shore line. Then the sun goes down, and the fun begins. High powered lights go on, the plankton appear, and we wait hanging off the makeshift raft (a large surfboard with handles). After 3-5 minutes we start to doubt the existence of the mantas, then Alicia calls out that one is coming, and you are blown away by the beauty and majesty of these magnificent creatures. They swoop up to get a gullet full of their food, and in the process come so close to you. This repeats over the next 30 minutes, and combined with the fish which also huddle in close to the lights, create this extraordinary, surreal marine stage play. The trip could certainly be shorter, but to experience the main act is an absolute must-do.
