Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

We thoroughly enjoyed these gentle giants at night. What a thrill. Please check out my video on YouTube by typing into Google, "DENISE & LOWELL MANTA MAGIC." It was super easy. The Manta Magic guys (Jeff and Hunter) provided us with wetsuit tops and snorkel masks. The boat took us just several hundred feet offshore. We jumped into the water and hung onto a floating surf board (or stand up paddle board) with handles. A diver was shinning lights at the bottom of our board and these AMAZING 14 ft+ wingspan Manta Rays gently glided underneath us--literally belly to belly a gorgeous dance to feed on the plankton that was attracted by the lights. They were as curious about us as we were of them. There were approximately 6 of them, one of which (named Bertha) the boat crew thought was ~80 years old--wow! Older than we are (we are 62 and 65). We have done some pretty cool things in our lives and this ranks right up at the top. We would definitely do this again. Thank you, Manta Magic for this a once in a lifetime unforgettable experience and for keeping us warm and safe. Mahalo.

It was the excursion of a lifetime and worth it. I was so excited to see the manta rays and how close they got. One touched me 3 times; yes, I screamed a bit. A must DO!!! The entire staff was great and so friendly. Next time we visit the Big Island, we will do this again. *not guaranteeing I won't scream again.
