Your expert guides will lead you on a journey across Mendenhall Lake where you will paddle together with a small group past icebergs, giant waterfalls, and wildlife. On your way to the ice, you will be surrounded by breathtaking scenery of mountain peaks nestled in the Tongass National Forest. Upon landing the canoe at a remote beach site, your guides will safely lead you on an interpretive hike around the rocky surfaces located directly in front of the glacier. I found this tour after going through several cruise and non-cruise excursions. I wanted to be able to go as near as possible to the glacier and many other tour companies barely mention it, let alone have pictures to properly show it. Liquid Alaska was very organized and detailed in their Viator/Trip Advisor listing, which helped me to make an informed decision. I even spoke with one of the managers prior to arriving so I could understand what I should/shouldn’t bring/wear since they provided rain jacket, pants, gloves, and boots! I am very happy that I with Liquid Alaska Tours! This was a bucket list item, but truly a chance of a lifetime that won’t be there for long. David and Miller both were nice, helpful, communicative, and great guides (even offered to take my picture since I was traveling solo). They were well organized and coordinated, which made for a very smooth process from start to finish. A highly recommend them as a team, and this tour.

My husband and I are really happy we did this tour. Mehra and Ben were so nice and informative and kept everyone safe. This tour is the ONLY way you can now see the Mendenhall glacier without taking a helicopter ride. We are both 29 and physically active and we both thought the canoe ride was more strenuous than we anticipated- mostly because even though it was the most beautiful day/weather there is a ton of wind that comes off the glacier so paddling gets harder the closer you get to it. Also we had several children on our tour who didn’t paddle very much or effectively. They should probably implement an age restriction. Our canoe held 16 people including the guides so it takes a lot of coordination to make progress. When we got to the land near the glacier we were disappointed that we weren’t able to actually stand on or touch the glacier because it has now receded too far away to access. Reviews and videos we had looked at from even just last season (2022) were able to walk on the glacier. This was not the tours fault and like I said, it is still the best views you can get of the glacier without taking a helicopter. We also got to see the glacier calve! Of note, the tour provides rain gear (light jacket and pants) to go over your normal attire, rain boots, life jacket, helmet, and a walking stick!

Glaciers are an ever-changing part of the landscape here in Southeast Alaska. Fortunately, experiencing the incredible Mendenhall Glacier to almost any degree is a breathtaking experience! My wife, Son and Daughter in-law all participated on this excursion. The staff Alec and Sarah were absolutely wonderful. Their knowledge of the area was amazing and their ability to teach and manage a crew of inexperienced people truly made the excursion one that I will always remember...
