Took the private tour with Captain Kirk, and it was an amazing day to be out on the water. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip, hanging out on the back of the boat, and getting up close and personal with the fjord. The views were amazing, but the wildlife viewing was limited on our trip. We did get to see Orca both on our way in and on our way out and "hang out" with them for a bit, which was definitely the highlight of the trip. What I didn't really realize in booking this tour was that much of our time was spent getting there and back; our time inside felt a bit rushed. I would have enjoyed more time actually inside the fjord, but aside from that and the limited wildlife viewing, neither of which could be controlled by our guide, it was a GREAT excursion.

Wow! What can we say! The six of us took the Coastal Cruiser out with Captain Kirk to see the Misty Fjords, which were beyond amazing!! Even better, if possible, was our return trip in which we found a pod of approximately 15 Orcas!! Kirk let us stay and visit with these amazing creatures for as long as we wanted, before returning us to the pier. We even exchanged pictures later as it was such an awesome event! It was the experience of a lifetime and we recommend it to anyone and everyone visiting Ketchikan!

Had we not already cruised through Glacier Bay just a few days earlier (and become hopelessly spoiled by that), this would have been even better. You get a bit closer to land on this tour, but by getting too close you can lose the scale and perspective. They also go pretty fast trying to squeeze it all in in the 5-hour tour and that was a bit fast for me. All in all, this is a very good excursion by a crew that definitely knows what it is doing. But having previously seen Glacier Bay, I’m not sure if this was the best use of our time in Ketchikan.
