We went on the 7:30 pm tour and the whole experience was very underwhelming. Firstly, the village is fairly run down and the ‘buffet’ was below average. Expected more traditional food but was disappointed to see chocolate cake roll and pavlova on offer. No site of fish, whitebait or mussels. Dining is very rushed with staff removing the food while you’re trying to get more. Again, we weren't shown the preparation of the traditional hangi as advertised on the website. Our guide Cap doesn’t seem passionate about his job at all and at times forgot what he’s about to say. After the buffet, we walked to a nearby stream to see warriors paddle down but had to wait for a good 15minutes doing nothing where the guide could have talked about the Maori culture. We then went to see some traditional dance and demonstration of weaponry which was more dynamic and was the only part we enjoyed. The evening then concludes with a brief walk around the same stream to see a handful of glowworms. At this hour, the stream/forest was super dark and had minimal lighting so Cap - our guide borrowed a guest’s mobile as a torch. Simply unbelievable! Coming out from the walk we found ourselves in the carpark area where staff were busy ushering guests back to their buggies. Those who came by their vehicle weren’t told anything. No conclusion of the evening, thank you or goodbye whatsoever. It was only 10 pm at this point (2.5 hours) although the tour is supposed to be 3 hours. I would not recommend to anyone who’s looking for an authentic Maori experience. You wouldn’t feel entertained or educated here.

Educational and entertaining. There's a brief opportunity to see glow worms. Friendly staff, food was hit-or-miss.

This is my second time to have this cultural show. The first one was when we had our friends from Montreal, Canada. The second one was when my Mum visited us from New York, USA. They all commented that this experience gave them an idea about the Maori way of life, their culture, dance, games, love and care for the environment, and the famous haka.
