I had a phenomenal 3-day adventure with Get in the Wild. Chris (lead guide) worked with me for over a month to find excursions that I could join as a solo traveller during my vacation time. I did 3 single-day canyoneering excursions in Stairway to Heaven (Robber's Roost), the Goblin's Lair, and Hogwarts Canyon (North Wash). Chris and his assistants Mike and Dmitria were excellent teachers. Chris focuses on fun, safety, and protecting the beautiful solitude of the canyons around Hanksville, UT. He is a wealth of knowledge about canyoneering (and other activities), wilderness safety, and the local natural and anthropological history of the area. He is a calm and patient teacher who can coax anyone over the edge of a rappel or through a down climb safely. He is happy to have photographers along and can point out numerous beautiful areas. I learned so much and got to see parts of Utah that I could never experience without Get in the Wild. Of course, I was jittery about backing over the edge of a 90' free rappel the first time, but I never felt unsafe or pressured to do something beyond my ability, and I loved every minute of my trip. By my third excursion, I could tell a big difference in my comfort level. I highly recommend spending a day or more with Chris and his team and look forward to my own return trip. Check out their website or contact Chris for more information about different courses and excursions in Utah and Washington. About the logistics: lunch or snacks are provided depending on the length of the trip. You should provide your own water (2L or more) and comfortable shoes. Chris can teach anyone through a canyon, but be honest with yourself about strenuous activity at elevation. You may have to drive 20-30 minutes to your trailhead. Roads in the area are paved or graded dirt (passable to any vehicle driven carefully). You'll need a day pack, but go light so that your bag fits easily into the nooks and crannies of the canyons. The sandstone is hard on any material, so don't bring anything you wouldn't mind a few scuffs and cuts on.

We did a full day canyoneering experience at Dirty Devil/Robber's Roost and had a blast! This was our first time canyoneering, but Chris patiently helped us safely traverse the canyons. It was definitely tricky at times, but we are very glad we went. Great way to spend the day exploring some hidden gems in Southern Utah!
