Just to be clear: the byway is a circuit. I had hoped to head north, and back to Phoenix after reaching Mt Lemon., but that’s not possible. It was a 2 hour detour, but totally worthwhile! Only issue with the app is that it would point out a pullout just as I passed it! Then, I’d turn around, but then the app was even more confused momentarily!

Great experience! Highly recommend to anyone interested in the night sky and the workings of a legit observatory. Travis was an excellent guide. Very informative and entertaining. Answered many questions thoroughly. Keep in mind that it is an hour and a half drive down the winding Mt Lemmon park road at night back to Tucson if you don’t stay up in the village of Summerhaven at the Ski Resort. Also know the last two mile drive up to the observatory is narrow, winding and with no guardrails. I drove up in my Ford Transit dually with no issues. The presentation about telescopes during the sandwich dinner was very informative. The sunset photo session was amazing and the hour spent observing stars, novas, and galaxies through the 30inch telescope was truly amazing. It was worth the cost for me and my wife.

Sounds like you had an incredible night at the Mount Lemmon observatory! While our self-guided audio tour focuses on the scenic drive during the day, it's awesome you got to experience the telescopes and the night sky with a guide.

I purchased the tour with my Android phone. It didn't work. We ended up using my wife's iPhone and purchased for the second time and it worked. Unfortunately I couldn't cancel my original purchase.
