We booked this tour to see the sights without having to drive and find places on our own. The bus ride was comfortable and we were able to see Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse monument and Custer State Park. Our driver, Dave, was very professional and knowledgeable, making this an enjoyable tour. Included in our package was a breakfast at Ft.. Hays Chuck Wagon. The breakfast was ok. It included pancakes, sausage and biscuits and gravy along with beverages. After returning from the bus tour, we attended the dinner and music show. Unfortunately, we didn't care for the food at the dinner or the way it was served. The dinner consisted of your choice of baked chicken or beef, baked potato, beans, applesauce and a roll with spice cake for dessert. You also got a beverage. To get your food, you went through a line where you took a tin plate and were given a portion of the above mentioned food. It was all stacked on one plate which you had to balance, one hand holding the loaded plate of hot food and your beverage. The tables were long picnic tables with bench seating that were not easy to get into or comfortable to sit at. (The audience was all seniors.) The beef was tough and the chicken and biscuit were dry. The spice cake was not bad. After dinner you have to bring your dirty dishes back to the kitchen before the show starts. The show portion was very good and the entertainers were excellent.. The people who run the show are very friendly, but the area could use a remodeling, especially the restroom areas. We rate it 4 stars for the bus tour and the show.

We booked this tour through Trip Advisor. Our tour guide was Gary who was a terrific guide and driver. Getting us through some of those tunnels, I felt like we were all holding our breath. He did an amazing job and stopped for us to take pictures of the wildlife and scenery if we asked. We stopped at the Custer Gamelands Resort for lunch (some people had this included with their tour, but ours wasn't) - it was one of the best meals we had (buffet) here on our visit. The beef was so tender and delicious and the price of the buffet was something like $13.95 ea. We stopped at Sylvan Lake and it was just gorgeous - with the lower temps we were surprised to see 3 people out in the water swimming! Seeing Mount Rushmore was breathtaking but we were disappointed that they had construction going on in front of it and we couldn't get closer for pics (use your zoom). Crazy Horse was wonderful but again you don't get close enough. This is the way to go (tour) to see everything but beware if you have motion sickness (and I do) - there are over 131 turns (I did have to close my eyes a few times) and if you have asthma (again I am unfortunate) you are at a higher altitude, so take your inhaler.

Our tour guide was Bill Martin and he was excellent. He was informative, funny and always took the time to pull over and take pictures or to point out things we would have missed. He was worth the price of the tour. We skipped our hotel breakfast and wished we hadn't. I hate to say this but breakfast was pancakes, bagged sausage gravy and a biscuit. A link sausage was also available. You could get additional pancakes and they were good. But there was no fruit or any other selections. There was ample time to see the movie set before the tour started. The Hays Chuckwagon staff was very friendly and accommodating! We chose to purchase our own meal at lunch at Custer's Lodge. It was pretty good. The tour had us back in time to walk a little more then they called us to supper. The seating was in a huge barn but was decorated nicely. The problem was the fixed benches attached to long picnic tables. They were hard to get in and out of. Plus, you had to retrieve your own plate and food, including drinks. Getting back in to those benches was tough. We had the beef. It was fairly tender with no seasoning. The baked potato was really good but the baked beans and biscuits were really not good. The lemonade was watery and the spice cake was lacking any flavor. Any cowpokes eating this on the trail ride would find another ranch to work with. I really wanted to like the food and again the staff was friendly. You also have to clear your own plate and after that we left and skipped the show. I would take that tour and eat before and after the show The tour gets 5 stars---the food...1. :)
