After lunch we depart for the Needles Hwy. This 14 mile scenic drive is sure to leave you breathless and awe struck at amazing beauty of the Black Hills. With only inches to spare on each side of the bus you can relish in the fact that you are not the one driving.

Mémorial national du mont Rushmore
Le bus part à 9h et se dirige vers le Mont Rushmore ! Vous aurez un peu plus d'une heure pour regarder autour de vous à votre convenance et profiter des sites et de la beauté pour lesquels vous êtes venu dans le Dakota du Sud. Nous nous arrêtons d'abord ici car le mont Rushmore est à son meilleur au soleil du matin. Gutzon Borglum a sculpté cette montagne face à l'est vers le soleil du matin et l'a destinée à être vue de cette façon.

Route de la montagne de fer
Après avoir quitté le mont Rushmore, nous emprunterons l'Iron Mountain Road. Une belle route de 17 miles de paysages à couper le souffle avec 3 tunnels à une voie qui encadrent parfaitement le mont Rushmore.

Nous nous arrêtons pour déjeuner à l'intérieur du Custer State Park au Game Lodge et à la Maison Blanche de l'été précédent pour le président Calvin Coolidge. Essayez le Buffalo Stew, c'est le meilleur que vous trouverez jamais !

Autoroute des Aiguilles
Après le déjeuner, nous partons pour la Needles Hwy. Cette route panoramique de 14 miles vous coupera le souffle et vous émerveillera devant la beauté incroyable des Black Hills. Asseyez-vous et profitez du trajet et regardez la foule se rassembler lorsque nous conduisons le bus à travers le tunnel Needles Eye. We took this tour with Stagecoach West Tours and it made our short stay in Rapid City complete and perfect! The day started off with a Western style cookout breakfast and ended with a good Chuckwagon style dinner. In between the bus took us to Mount Rushmore, Needles Highway, etc. where we had plenty of time to see it all and shop for souvenirs. The name of the tour is FORT HAYS CHUCKWAGON TOUR. If you are fortunate to have bus driver named Matt I guarantee you will have a day you will remember!

We had limited time in the Rapid City area and after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, I made reservations for this tour. We had evening plans so skipped the dinner and show. We had a wonderful day in every way. Lucky enough to have Matt Pates as our driver and guide, we learned countless interesting things about the history of the area and the sites we stopped to visit. Matt is articulate, well-read and hilarious and there was many a laugh throughout the nine hour tour. He's also an excellent driver and navigated the hairpin turns and narrow tunnels with skill. At one point, there is an incredibly narrow tunnel through which to pass and Matt has us in stitches as he made his way to the other side. I know I am not speaking just for my husband and me when I say we all had so much fun! We saw Mount Rushmore, Needles Highway, the Crazy Horse memorial, stopped for a delicious lunch and had several roadside pull-overs to learn about and enjoy the beauty of Custer State Park. There was never a feeling of being rushed. We highly recommend Mount Rushmore Tours to anyone interested in a fun and informative day in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

We were very well pleased with our tour. There was alot to see which included Mt Rushmore, Black Hills, Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Crazy Horse and much more. Our driver/guide was very knowledgeable and made our tour a wonderful experience. The morning started off at the tour offices which featured the rebuilt pieces of the Fort Hayes set from the movie Dances with Wolves which was filmed in South Dakota. We were truly amazed at the number of films that have been filmed in South Dakota including several we never would have though of (Armeggedon for one). Our guide (unfortunately I can't recall his name) made the tour very enjoyable and provided several laughs including the 'student driver' sign he taped to the front window while navigating the tight turns of the Needles Highway. We even saw several passing drivers laughing as well. It was truly amazing how those buses can fit through the narrow tunnels - this also prompted many watches from other vehicles passing by near the tunnels. Great tour!!
