Fort Hays Old West Town and Dinner Show

The tour package starts at Fort Hays Chuckwagon where you get your all you can eat cowboy breakfast. Nothing better than home made cowboy pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage links with a hot cup of coffee to get the day started.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial

The bus departs at 9am and heads for Mount Rushmore! You will have a little over an hour to look around at your own convenience and enjoy the sites and beauty that you came to South Dakota for. We stop here first because Mount Rushmore is at it's best in the morning sun. Gutzon Borglum carved this mountain facing east towards the morning sun and intended it to be viewed this way.

Iron Mountain Road

After leaving Mount Rushmore we will travel along the Iron Mountain Road. A beautiful 17 mile road of breath taking scenery featuring 3 one lane tunnels that perfectly frame Mount Rushmore.

Custer State Park Resort

We stop for lunch inside Custer State Park at the Game Lodge and previous summer White House for president Calvin Coolidge. Try the Buffalo Stew, it's the best you will ever find!

Needles Highway

After lunch we depart for the Needles Hwy. This 14 mile scenic drive is sure to leave you breathless and awe struck at amazing beauty of the Black Hills. Sit back and enjoy the ride and watch the crowd gather around when we drive the bus through the Needles Eye Tunnel. With only inches to spare on each side of the bus you can relish in the fact that you are not the one driving.

Sylvan Lake

Take a rest stop and coffee break at the beautiful Sylvan Lake. This is among the crown jewels of Custer State Park and the beauty within it.

Crazy Horse Memorial

We spend about an hour at Crazy Horse Memorial. You are on your own to spend this time enjoying this piece of history in the making. Upon completion it will be the largest mountain carving in the world! Truly a piece of awe inspiring history being worked on every day.

Fort Hays Old West Town and Dinner Show

The tour package ends back at Fort Hays to include the Chuckwagon Supper and Live Music Show. This chuckwagon meal is sure to leave you with a full belly. The show is a Branson style variety show to include music for all ages to enjoy. Rate the best family entertainment in the Black Hills.

Fort Hays Old West Town et dîner-spectacle

Le voyage organisé commence à Fort Hays Chuckwagon où vous obtenez votre petit-déjeuner de cow-boy à volonté. Rien de mieux que des pancakes de cow-boy faits maison, des biscuits et de la sauce, des liens de saucisse avec une tasse de café chaud pour bien commencer la journée.

Mémorial national du mont Rushmore

Le bus part à 9h et se dirige vers le Mont Rushmore ! Vous aurez un peu plus d'une heure pour regarder autour de vous à votre convenance et profiter des sites et de la beauté pour lesquels vous êtes venu dans le Dakota du Sud. Nous nous arrêtons d'abord ici car le mont Rushmore est à son meilleur au soleil du matin. Gutzon Borglum a sculpté cette montagne face à l'est vers le soleil du matin et l'a destinée à être vue de cette façon.

Route de la montagne de fer

Après avoir quitté le mont Rushmore, nous emprunterons l'Iron Mountain Road. Une belle route de 17 miles de paysages à couper le souffle avec 3 tunnels à une voie qui encadrent parfaitement le mont Rushmore.

Parc d'État de Custer Resort

Nous nous arrêtons pour déjeuner à l'intérieur du Custer State Park au Game Lodge et à la Maison Blanche de l'été précédent pour le président Calvin Coolidge. Essayez le Buffalo Stew, c'est le meilleur que vous trouverez jamais !

Autoroute des Aiguilles

Après le déjeuner, nous partons pour la Needles Hwy. Cette route panoramique de 14 miles vous coupera le souffle et vous émerveillera devant la beauté incroyable des Black Hills. Asseyez-vous et profitez du trajet et regardez la foule se rassembler lorsque nous conduisons le bus à travers le tunnel Needles Eye. Avec seulement quelques centimètres à perdre de chaque côté du bus, vous pouvez apprécier le fait que vous n'êtes pas celui qui conduit.

Lac Sylvain

Faites une halte et une pause-café au magnifique lac Sylvan. C'est l'un des joyaux de la couronne du parc d'État de Custer et de la beauté qu'il contient.

Mémorial du cheval fou

Nous passons environ une heure au Crazy Horse Memorial. Vous êtes seul pour passer ce temps à profiter de ce morceau d'histoire en devenir. Une fois terminé, ce sera la plus grande sculpture de montagne au monde ! Vraiment un morceau d'histoire inspirante sur laquelle on travaille tous les jours.

Le voyage organisé se termine à Fort Hays pour inclure le souper Chuckwagon et le spectacle de musique en direct. Ce repas de chariot est sûr de vous laisser le ventre plein. Our bus driver. He was well informed and very humorous. He knew Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and other places ins and outs. I know we had test Bus Driver ever. Oh, if you like a quiet ride don't get him. LOL

Average trip. We arrived at approximately 8 am and made our way towards the entrance of one of the buildings to pick up our tour tickets. We were given directions on when and where to meet up and told to hed on over to the building next door for some breakfast. The breakfast options were very limited, and we had the option of choosing from pancakes, sausage and biscuits and gravy. There was live music playing for the duration of the breakfast. Once we finished eating we waited outside for the bus to arrive. This is when things started to go downhill. The bus driver called out individual names based on when they booked their tickets, and that determined the order that everyone sat inside the bus. Unfortunately, since we bought our tickets the day before, the only seats available when our name were called were all the way in the back of the bus. The back of the bus was EXTREMELY loud, especially when going uphill. I could only make out every third to forth word of the bus driver during his narrated tour. Also- our view to the right side was also completely obstructed by the bathroom. Whenever the bus driver pointed out an interesting viewpoint on the right side- we could not see it due to the bathroom being in the way. We first visited Mount Rushmore and were told that we had an hour to view the monument, which was definitely not enough time. We only had time to snap a couple of pictures in front of the monument, watch a short introductory movie in the museum, and go to the gift shop before it was time to leave. I would have loved to spend more time exploring the museum, and even hiking the trail around the monument. We then drove on Iron Mountain Road where the bus driver did a fantastic job navigating the tight tunnels. We then ate lunch inside Custer State Park at the Game Lodge and that felt rushed as well. Lunch was not included as part of the tour and we had to pay 17$ per person for a buffet style meal. There were several other buses in the area and the line to the buffet stretched almost to the door. By the time we reached the front of the line and picked out our food, we only had about 30 minutes to eat. The meal was very good. After eating, we drove on Needles Highway and enjoyed the views. Next we went to Sylvan Lake, where I felt rushed once again. We only had enough time to hike halfway around the lake, before it was time to board the bus and leave again. Finally, we visited Crazy Horse Memorial, where we only had a short time to explore the area once again. We managed to go on a bus tour that brought us closer to the monument, rush through the indoor museum and tour the gift shop before we had to leave. The entire tour was narrated by the bus driver, but like I mentioned earlier, the back of the bus was extremely noisy and I could barely make out what he was saying. Our views were also completely obstructed on the right hand side due to the bathroom being in the way. The tour ended at roughly 5:30 pm and we had a 45 minute break before the second part of the tour started (dinner and the show). The dinner was buffet styled once again as well, and we had to wait until our row was called in order to get in line. There were numerous options of food to choose from, including a baked potato, baked beans, chicken or pork, applesauce, biscuits and spice cake. There were several drink options available including lemonade, water and iced tea, with different drinks available for purchase for an additional cost. The meal was pretty tasty and shortly after we finished eating, the show started. The performers did a great job at keeping the crowd engaged and playing a variety of music. Overall, this was a good introductory tour to the area, but I definitely would have liked to spend more time at each attraction. The next day after the tour, I emailed the tour company regarding my complaints about the seating arrangement on the bus, and how I couldn’t see or hear much for the duration of the tour. The company never responded to me, which to me means that they do not care about their customers. I would not do this tour again.

Great driver (thanks Ken) told lots of stories. Some were funny tall tales, and some were historic and informative. Dinner and music were lots of fun
