Going through this gives such a great picture of what our first president was like as well as colonial life, albeit from a wealthier family perspective. I added the mansion interior ($2) and had the luxury of spending almost the whole day on the property. It was all worth it, including the museum, which helps fill in the gaps in making history come alive. If nothing else, do not miss the 4-D film on the Revolutionary War. Restoration of the house to try to have it the way it was when the Washingtons lived there is impressive and I appreciate the work the Mount Vernon Ladies Association did to save it that continues. Only wish the Mount Vernon Inn was open for dinner - they close when the grounds do.

Mount Vernon used to be a regular haunt but that was twenty years ago Returning to visit was like visiting an old friend by it had been enhanced in quality and information The visitor centre is an excellent space and a welcome addition rather than the little hut on the left hand side of the entrance. The welcome video and displays are all new additions The house was undergoing renovation but you could still see limited rooms but enter from the back entrance rather than through the front door which is a shame as it was always a treat to leave the house and sit on the porch overlooking the Potomac Another addition is the identification of the slaves graves although the slaves memorial and George Washington Grave remained as I recalled An excellent addition is the shuttle to the river especially up the hill on a very hot day

I enjoyed seeing the house and grounds. This place was really busy with tourists. The guides do a good job describing the various rooms and areas within the home. The people dressed in costume on the grounds and farm area knew their lines, but weren't as engaging or helpful with whatever they were supposed to be teaching or sharing.
