In 1969 the Swampers founded Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and within months they were attracting hit recording artists from around the world who came to them in search of the signature sound that forever changed American music. Through the generosity of Beats Electronics the legendary studio has been authentically restored. From the vintage equipment in the control room upstairs to the orange carpet in the Swampers' party room downstairs, the building looks exactly as it did during those magical years between 1969 and 1978. Peek into the bathroom where Keith Richards put the finishing touches on Wild Horses or sit at the piano that Paul Simon played on Kodachrome.

The tour is of the iconic studio that produced hundreds of hit records including hits by the Rolling Stones, Bob Seger, Boz Scaggs, Paul Simon, The Staple Singers, Leon Russell, Rod Stewart, Rival Sons, Linda Rondstadt and many more. The studio is still a working studio. Merch for sale to support our operations that are managed by a 501C3 non-profit. We are requiring masks currently and limiting capacity in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

Wonderful tour. Our guide was really passionate about the studio's history and the music coming out of it, and answered everybody's questions. Many in the group had seen the "Muscle Shoals" documentary, but he gave us a brief and interesting history of how they opened the studio. As he walked us through the lounge and studio, we got a lot of cool stories. Here's the bathroom (located right next to the studio) where Keith Richards locked himself in to finish writing "Wild Horses". The grand piano is the one that the piano intro for "Freebird" was first played on (and recorded on their demo), and "Codachrome" plus a lot of Bob Seeger and Leon Russell classics were played. The bass corner of the studio - left intact - is where "I'll Take You There" was tracked. My husband and I are musicians and we loved it.

My son and I took this tour and thought it was fantastic. The tour guide does a wonderful job describing the history and legacy of the studio and sharing his passion. There's no comparison between this tour and the super-disappointing one we had at FAME. Definitely worth the detour on our travels from Memphis to Nashville.

Muscle Shoals Sound Studio is a MUST if you are traveling to the Muscle Shoals area. Terrell Benton is an amazing tour guide! The music made there and the stories are one in a million. I will definitely be returning.
