National Corvette Museum
The National Corvette Museum is a showcase to America's sports car.  Start your tour with a short film about the history of the Corvette and the Corvette Museum.  As you walk though the museum you'll see exhibits featuring over 70 Corvettes in periodic settings including a mid-century barbershop, service station and dealership.  You'll see Corvette prototypes, one-of-kind cars, and racing champs.  Enjoy hands-on activities in KidZone , trivia kiosks, and the "Corvette Cave In” exhibit.  This exhibit takes visitors back to the early morning hours of February 12, 2014 when the earth opened up inside the Museum’s Skydome, swallowing the classic Corvettes.  The Museum's Skydome offers a glimpse of the size and depth of the sinkhole as well as the retrieved Corvettes. Guests are also invited to try a Corvette on for size in the lobby. The Corvette Store offers apparel, collectibles, home and gift items.  An on-site 50's-inspired Corvette Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and snacks.

Ok.... so I really like cars! This is a museum that is dedicated to the Corvette but touches on the automotive history and much more. I was surprised by all the information under this roof. Yes, it IS about Vettes but much here too. Educational as well as relaxing, this should be on your agenda when in the area. I couldn’t soak it all in in 1 visit so I will be back.

There are better car museums out there. The Gilmore Museum in Michigan immediately comes to mind, but as far as a single model museum, it won't get much better than this one. There is a bit of a quality over quantity aspect here. Every single year is not covered by a display car, but each series is covered very nicely. The displays are split up into sections. There are displays with elaborate detailing, like old gas stations, workshops and things like that. Then there is an area of race cars that are displayed side-by-side with a track mural behind it. The a whole attraction about the sinkhole. They seemed to have really embraced that situation, making it an attraction of it's own. The domed room that the sinkhole happened in is not really themed, except for the Hall of Fame displays up on the walls. The cars are lined up in groups that somewhat make sense. The damaged cars are in a section in the middle with info boards, so they have not themed them as yet. There is also a lineup of all the series from C1 to C7. No C8 was on display yet, other than the test mule car. The last area had mostly random cars that had some sort of history. It was all really good as a whole, but some display areas were better than others. The store is really extensive, as you'd imagine. I did watch the movie in the theater, which was really good. There is also a diner where I had lunch, which was pretty good and reasonable. This was a Bucket List place for me and it did not disappoint. It did not take as long as I thought it would. I always expect museums to take 3 or so hours and I was through in 2-ish, plus lunch.

We visited with another couple and really enjoyed the museum. I am a car guy and do own a Corvette but my wife is not a car person but thoroughly enjoyed it too. I especially found interesting the sink hole exibit and just the information on them. We did eat at the cafe and enjoyed the meal.
