We loved our tour guides and their commentary. We saw whales, sea lions, sea otters, glaciers, and many types of birds. We had lunch at Fox Island and thought it was excellent and appreciated a little downtime off the boat. The dinner chicken wrap was plain but good. The crew was incredibly helpful and friendly! Highly recommend this tour!

Our party of 8 went on the all day, 8.5 hour cruise plus dinner at Fox Island. Our party had ages 10, 15, 17, 17, and 4 adults (parents, grandparents). The day was chilly- overcast, rain, and wind. This was not unusual weather, we were told, and it didn't impact the ability to see the amazing fjords and the glaciers. Pros: We were able to get pretty close to a glacier (I think it was Alialik glacier- they choose one of two glaciers to get close to I believe). We traveled within a distant viewing of Bear Glacier and a tiny portion of Holgate glacier. We did see several smallish icebergs around the glacier, and we were able to stop at the glacier for a while to really be able to hear the ice popping, and to see (and hear) some calving. There were some mountain goats up on the cliffs by the glacier too- that was interesting. Other pros: we saw some wildlife. My favorite by far were the sea otters that were just laid back relaxing on the ocean. They were just adorable- so much fun. We saw some orca, and some humpback. I would guess seeing a breach or something like that is pretty unusual here as these guys are here for the serious business of eating as much food as possible. So for the humpbacks, they just surfaced a bit to breath and then dove deep again. Not much to see there. The orcas were cruising around in a pod, and they were pretty interesting to see though. We also saw a bald eagle, and lots of birds. Cons: I think this tour was just too long for my family as a whole. It was a long tour, and I probably took 500 pictures, but for those prone to seasickness (a few of our party) they were kind of sleepy from the seasickness meds, and didn't really get much out of it. My daughter didn't even want to go out to see the glacier, which was the whole point! Also the seating inside is comfortable, but more reminiscent of a ferry than a wildlife viewing cruise. We had a table next to a window and another table in the center portion (no window). When you were inside and came upon wildlife, it was pretty impossible to see it on the side of the boat opposite of your window. Just too many people crowding the windows. There were very few spots where you could look at both sides easily- savvy travelers elbow their way to the front of a line and get those spots. Unless you're the type of person OK with elbowing someone, likely you'll have to see just one side of the view and just make due with what you get... The Fox Island Dinner was interesting in that it was the only place where a park ranger actually interacted with us. The food was mediocre but it did take care of dinner, and our family found Seward lacking in dining options so that was just as well fore us. The boat captain did narrate the tour, but I don't think that his presentation was likely as thorough as a park ranger led tour would be. In summary, this tour is worth the time, in my opinion. However, I would likely choose a shorter tour next time, unless you know that you really love nature photography and don't have any issues with seasickness. The weather on our June 2019 tour was cold (low-mid 50s) and rainy with wind. I was comfortable with a base layer, thick pants, fleece jacket, rain jacket, gloves, and a hat. I would recommend a sturdy rain jacket.
