This was an awesome day. The weather was perfect, which I understand is quite unusual in Seward. The day started with a pick-up at our hotel to transport us to the marina. Our tour was scheduled for 10 and we were told to be there one hour ahead of time. The transportation was free and it eliminated the need to deal with parking. The cruise departed promptly. The captain, Steven, was a very experienced sailor. He navigated some really tight places and got us up close to many of the sights. Plus he was extremely knowledgeable on the wildlife, the glaciers, the mountains and local folklore. We saw happy little sea otters, humpback whales, Eagles, Stellar sea lions, mountain goats and many varieties of birds. We got up close to glaciers and witnessed them calving. The crew was excellent. They came around frequently and asked if we were okay. They offered saltines and ginger ale to any who were seasick. The trip included lunch, which was a chicken wrap, a bag of chips, a granola bar and an Andes mint. The crew served us. We ended the trip on Fox Island where dinner (also included) was served. It was served cafeteria style and you could go back for seconds. The menu was rolls, salad, mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes, salmon and prime rib. You could also pay extra for Alaskan King crab legs, which we did. There was also lemonade, water, coffee and tea. The food was tasty. And it was a nice variety of local food. The only thing missing was dessert. However once we got back on the boat the crew served us warm chocolate chip cookies. After dinner we headed back to Seward. It was a great day. The tour left at 10 and returned at 6:30. The buses were waiting to take us back to our hotel. On a side note, I made my reservations about 8 months in advance. At that time I signed up for emails. Two weeks after I made my reservation I received an email advertising 40% off. I was a little upset because that represented a significant savings. I called the reservation office and they willing applied the discount. That made my day! I would highly recommend this tour.

We had a great day of really nice weather. The cruise begins in Resurrection Bay, where we paused to watch some humpback whales feeding. Everyone was pleased . . . but we also saw whales throughout the cruise and stopped slowing down for them at the end. Five points for whales! We saw sea otters, although only a few. One in particular just hung out very near the boat, floating along. Four points for sea otters. We saw Stellar and Harbor seals. They weren't doing anything but resting, but we saw them several times. Four points for seals. We saw just a few Dall's porpoises, all at once. Maybe two point for porpoises. We saw a lot of birds, including a whole lot of puffins. I'm not a bird person, but five points for birds! The highlight (for me, anyway) was the Aialik glacier. We parked a quarter mile offshore and watched ice calve, including one really large explosion of ice. The glacier was amazing . . . can I give six points for the glacier? I also had a margarita with glacier ice netted by the crew - five more points! We never saw an Orca (or a bear). This was a great cruise, excellent service, not to be missed. The boat is decent sized, serves over a hundred people. It's quite comfortable inside and it can get quite cold outside. I will mention, however, that the stop at Fox Island for dinner seemed like a waste of time . . . the food, all arranged in a line, was average at best. Fox Island does not have any soft drinks at all (they do have beer and wine). The cruise would have been better had we not stopped.

I really wish I could give this 4.5 stars. The wildlife spotting on this tour is incredible. What you see is largely of course up to nature, but the captain was extremely adept at spotting whale blows and seemed genuinely enthusiastic about helping people see as many species as possible. We spotted otters, sea lions, seals, puffin, humpbacks, orcas, porpoises, and a variety of birds. The views are unparalleled and it's amazing to get up close to the glacier (we happened to have a perfect day with low ice) and hear it calving. The boat is pretty nice though the intercom system doesn't work particularly well back by the stern - I missed a lot of commentary because I couldn't hear it. I also felt just a little guilty doing the tour because these boats likely aren't best for the natural environment. It felt ironic to pull right up to a glacier and talk about how fast it's receding because of human action. Then again, there's pretty much no other way to see this park, so... There are multiple tours to do with this company, and I'd say do the 6 hour one that excludes Fox Island. Though it's probably a cool enough island, you don't actually get to see it. You just go in to a cafeteria to eat, listen to a very quick park ranger talk, and get back on the boat. The food is not exceptional - you can definitely find salmon anywhere in Alaska. Save your money and eat at a nice place in town post cruise. That being said, the crew did make and hand out some extraordinary chocolate chip cookies on board!
