New Archangel Dancers Russian and Ukrainian Folk Dance Show

We are an all-women, non-profit volunteer group that live and work in Sitka. Since 1969 the New Archangel Dancers have promoted Alaska as a visitor destination by sharing their knowledge of Sitka's Russian History and their pride in Alaska.

The Dancers' success and notoriety have been enhanced by regular guest performances at the opening of new Alaska Airlines terminals, at Alaska Governors' inaugural celebrations, and at various dance festivals, tourism trade shows, conferences, and public events. In addition to performing throughout the "lower 48," the dancers have performed to enthusiastic audiences in Hawaii, Japan, Russia, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

The New Archangel Dancers put on a fantastic half-hour show that is well worth the price of admission. The group does not hide the fact that they are enthusiastic amateurs who all have other jobs-the ticket sales support the production costs and the dancers volunteer their time. The dancers were uniformly high-energy and entertaining--and for amateurs, I thought they were also pretty skilled. The emcee told short stories between dances as the dancers changed costumes offstage, and the stories about the history of the dance group, their training, and the assembly and maintencance of their colorful costumes were engaging. This performance added a lot to our Sitka experience, and it was a great complement to the other activties we did.
